Use WiGi's to Visualize and Explore your Research Area!
To demonstrate the versatility of our WiGi tool, we have interfaced it 750,000 articles from the CiteSeer database. Using the query box below, enter a query for a person, or for a research topic that you are interested in learning more about. Pressing the search button will return a result list of relevant publications in "standard" result list format. Select a few of the results that you are interested in exploring further, and specify the degree of freedom for your search. The "I'm Feeling Visual" button will take you to a WiGi visualization of your search results, where you can explore co-authorship connections spanning out from your initail query set.
CiteSeer WiGi Options:
Articles: Perform search over article titles (or various parts of titles, either contiguous or non-contiguous)
Authors: Search for names (or parts of names)
Abstracts: Search over the text in an abstract. (currently disabled)
Num Results: Specify the max number of results to display
Degree of Freedom: How many 'hops' along the co-authorship network to show in the result visualization
A Note On Complexity: We have parsed and indexed 750K publications from CiteSeer BibTex entries. . In our expansion algorithm, a Degree of Separation is defined between publications. This process involves taking each author on each of the seed publications that you select, expanding that author's publications and so on.... This is a highly exponential control, but the size of the search space/ result set is also highly dependent on the initial seed articles. Factors such as number of authors and popularity (degree of connectedness) of each author in the seed publications must be considered. In our experiments, the time taken to generate a visualization has varied between 5 seconds and Hours, depending on the seed sets.
